chalcolithic period

The Chalcolithic  period or Copper Age,also known as the Eneolithic   is a phase of the Bronze Age before it was discovered that addintin to copper formed the harder bronze. The Copper Age was originally defined as a transition between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age. However, because it is characterized by the use of metals, the Copper Age is considered a part of the Bronze Age rather than the Stone Age.The earliest settlements range from gangetic valley to chotanagpur plateau.The economy was based upon hunting,fishing,stock raising and agriculture.
           main features:

  • burial practices
  • presence of painted pottery
  • pottery ranges from red ware, deep brown,black and pictographic red, black and brown wares.
cultures like kayatha, ahara,malwa,svalda,prabhas and rangpur culture.
